In USS but not in the ballot?

The vast majority of UCU members in USS work in pre-92 universities. However, there are many UCU members in USS who are not currently working in one of the institutions being balloted; most commonly because they have changed jobs.

So if this applies, why aren’t you being balloted?

It was decided to only ballot members in institutions with large USS memberships because we did not want to expose members to taking isolated industrial action while the majority of their colleagues worked as normal, as would be the case for example for post-92 institutions.

We fully recognise your interests in this dispute and will aim to keep you and other USS members who are not in one of the ballot institutions fully informed of our progress.

In the event that your fellow members do vote for industrial action, please support colleagues in any way you can, perhaps including a contribution to the union’s fighting fund.
